What is testing and tagging?
Testing and tagging is the process in which
a portable electrical appliance is tested to ensure
that it is safe for use.
The process of appliance testing involves the
following:
- Visual Inspection - Firstly the appliance
shall be checked to ensure that it is in good
physical condition and there are no obvious
signs of danger.
- Electrical Testing - The appliance is then
tested with a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT)
to test for any unseen electrical faults.
- Record Keeping - Once the appliance is tested
a record of the appliance is then created. I
will include the test outcomes as well as the
testing technician.
What do I need to tag?
Any plug in electrical appliances in a working
environment or public place must be tested. I.e.
computers, hand held tools, microwaves, 3 phase
equipment, extension leads, power boards, portable
Residual Current Devices (RCD’s).
How often do I need to test and tag my equipment?
The frequency of testing depends on the environment
in which the appliance is being used. The harsher
the environment then the more likely the appliance
is likely to be damaged and the more often it
is to be tested.
Does 3 phase equipment need to be tagged?
Yes. 3 phase equipment does need to be tested
and tagged according to AS/NZS 3760.
What is microwave radiation testing?
Microwave radiation testing ensures that radiation
emission leakage is within safe health regulations.
Do new appliances need tagging?
Yes. New appliances require tagging but do not
need to be inspected & tested. However, an
introduction to service tag shall be placed on
the appliance to indicate when the appliance was
introduced to service. Tag it Safe supply all
of our clients with INTRODUCTION TO SERVICE tags
at no cost.
Does Tag it Safe test RCD’s?
